Trout: An Illustrated History

by James Prosek

Trout: An Illustrated History.

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1997.

One of Prosek’s first collections of the trout he’s caught, a selection of 70 beautiful, colorful watercolors.   The focus of the book is the pictures, with just enough text to explain what’s going on.

Good Points:

  • Gorgeous, high-quality illustrations.
  • Personal introduction gives Prosek’s reflections on his history, fishing, and making art.

Other Notes:

  • Prosek was twenty when the book was published.
  • By no means comprehensive, it is a collection based on Prosek’s fishing.
  • Based on Behnke’s scientific work.
