The Magic School Bus at the Waterworks

by Joanna Cole

The Magic School Bus at the Waterworks.

Illustrated by Bruce Degen.

New York: Scholastic, Inc., 1986.

The irrepressible Ms. Frizzle takes her class on an adventure starting in a raincloud and into some mountain streams.   From there, she and the students wind their way through the New York City water supply system all the way back to their school.

Good Points:

  • Created in cooperation with NYC DEP; the details are quite good.
  • Rich illustrations.
  • In science and engineering, could be used as a reference material.

Other Notes:

  • Busy pages with reports, dialogue, and narrative.
  • No trout involved.
